When I first came to my current company, I picked up a project to help a site that was recovering from one of the hurricanes that hit the United States in 2008. The group of people that was working on this were super, as usual. What had not happened, apparently, was a focusing of everyone's efforts on the tasks at hand and going into the future. Well, that's what project managers do, so I did. While I'm an information technology project manager, I had an opportunity to see and oversee lots of activities in other areas, from insurance claims to recovery of valuable property in condemned buildings to demolition of the former structures and the locating, movement, and installation of temporary buildings to house the business in the interim. Oh, yes! And of course I coordinated the IT work, too. It's been a rewarding effort, which was culminated when one of the managers stated, "Joe, I've been on a lot of projects, but I've never seen one run this well."
I can keep going for six months on that statement alone!
